Our Mission

The Secure Building Council (SBC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating safer, more resilient built environments. We developed the industry’s first physical security certification program — SHIELD — to raise awareness, provide education, and foster collaboration among building owners, property managers, architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

By prioritizing security early in the design process, we elevate practices that safeguard occupants against a range of man-made threats while enhancing the quality and usability of the spaces we live and work in.
